Carlos Chávez
Bio

Carlos pioneered competition and antitrust law in Mexico, where he was one of the first lawyers to specialize in regulated industries. He brings enormous technical expertise and over 15 years of professional experience to the table.

His advice benefits clients as he is able to tap his invaluable experience obtained from participating in some of the most complex transactions and proceedings before Mexican regulators and competition agencies.

Carlos frequently represents railway operators and telecommunications carriers in regulatory and antitrust proceedings. He also represents financial institutions in proceedings before banking and securities regulators and competition agencies. In addition, he advises various big pharma players in strategic transactions and represents them in securing antitrust clearance. Carlos also works closely with our Energy team on matters involving competition issues in the electricity and hydrocarbons markets.

Carlos is a professor at the Law Department of CIDE and worked as an international attorney at Milbank’s New York office in 2006 and 2007.

He is recognized by several international publications due to his extensive experience advising clients in heavily regulated industries such as energy, railways and telecommunications. In addition, Chambers & Partners highlights his technical knowledge and his expertise in the Competition practice. The Legal 500 ranked him as “Next Generation Partner” in the Competition practice, and the French publication Leaders League recognized him as “Leading” in the same practice.

He graduated from the Escuela Libre de Derecho and holds a Master of Law from New York University. He also has a graduate degree in Law and Business from the NYU Stern School of Business.
